Norway floods set to cost over 200m kroner

It is estimated it will cost around 211 million kroner to repair the damage after the floods in Western Norway, according to experts.

The figure came from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat – NVE) and is broken down as:

70 million kroner has to be spent for repairs in Odd;
69 million kroner in Flåm;
16 million kroner in Lærdal.

Regional chief at NVE, Brigt Samdal, explained to TV2: “The remainder [56 million kroner] is connected to 15 other municipalities struck by the flood.”

The extra cost of tens of millions of kroner connected to damage on private residences and buildings will be in addition to this. This will be covered by insurance companies.

Damage to roads and ruined farming areas will be covered by the Norwegian Natural Perils Pool (Statens Naturskadefond).
