Among the guests, Bambi welcomed royal guests, Irish rockers, an American pop princess and, of course, all the German promis including Die Mannschaft.

Michael Schumacher was awarded the Millennium Bambi. His manager Sabine Kehm accepted the fawn statue on his behalf.

Others awarded included schlager-darling Helene Fischer, rappers Die Fantastichen Vier and Helmut Dietl. The director was recognized with a prize for his entire body of work.

Bambi looks beyond Germany's borders too. U2 was on hand to accept their International music award, although it their appearance was almost marred by Bono's private plane losing a door to the luggage compartment while landing at Schönefeld airport.

Pop princess Ariana Grande was feted with the "Newcomer" award and Uma Thurman was named the award's favourite international actress.

As for those who grace Teutonic airwaves, Francis Fulton-Smith and Josefine Preuß took home best actor awards and the critically acclaimed TV movie, Bornholmer Straße, took home the top prize in its category.
