The Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung reported on Thursay that the study, conducted by the parliamentary Green Party, found that there was a definite bump in rent prices that coincided with the announcement of the rent cap legislation
Eleven cities across the country were analysed in the study.
"Through the creation of these laws without a quick implementation, the Grand Coalition has fuelled these costs again," Green party housing expert Chris Kühn told the newspaper.
He said the results of the study should push policy makers to "put (the law) into action as soon as possible."
The new laws will forbid landlords from setting rent more than 10 percent higher than the average for the area when dealing with tenant turnover.
