Southern Sweden had 201 days of summer

Weather experts say that mild air stuck around in southern Sweden's big cities in September and October and that they experienced a total of 201 days of summer. 

 

But they point out that that autumn is now underway across most of the region.

 

"Looking at Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg and Kristianstad, meteorological autumn has arrived. The definition of this is an average temperature of below 10C for five days in a row," Marcus Sjöstedt, meteorologist at SMHI, told news agency TT.

 

"It is unusual for a summer to stretch into 200 days or so. Normally a summer in Lund lasts around 155 days," he added.

 

He said that in a few parts of Sweden, temperatures were still yet to dip to typical levels for November.

 

"We have some coastal places where autumn has still not arrived, including Falsterbo and the southern tip of Öland."

 

Other parts of the country are already experiencing a cold snap, with Stockholm getting its first snowflakes last week.
