During the event both the UN Secretary-General and the cross-dressing singer will address the audience of UN staff, diplomats and members of civil society to highlight the importance of mutual respect and tolerance, and to raise awareness about the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community.
"Everyone is entitled to enjoy the same basic rights and live a life of worth and dignity without discrimination. This fundamental principle is embedded in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," said the Secretary-General's spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, adding that Ban is looking forward to meeting a "cultural icon".
The spokesman said meeting with the bearded singer would allow Ban "to reassert his support for LGBT people and for them to ensure that they enjoy the same human rights and protection that we all do."
"Conchita is a symbol in that sense and I think it's good for them to meet," he said.
Wurst appeared before the European Parliament earlier this month at the invitation of five MEPs from different factions.
Wurst's new single, #ConchitaHEROES will be released later the same week, on November 8th.
