Choosing where to live in Austria is not easy – the country's nine states are diverse and each has its positives and negatives.

But a new study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development could make the selection process a little easier.

The OECD Regional Well-Being study looked at regions in 34 of the world’s richest countries, rating them on nine factors: income, jobs, health, access to services, environment, education, safety, civic engagement and housing.

Austria scores highly when it comes to safety, income and education, but surprisingly, not so well for housing or environment.

To find out more about what Austria's states do right and wrong The Local dug into the data to provide an overview on which regions rate best and worst from housing to healthcare.
