Bomb alert closed Schwarzenbergplatz

A bomb alert was triggered on Friday morning at Vienna's Schwarzenbergplaz because of a suspicious package.

A large area was cordoned off by police. The number 71 tram was suspended for the duration of the emergency.

Sniffer dogs and a bomb-disposal robot were used to assess the package, which turned out to be harmless.

Loudspeakers were used by police to ask local residents to stay away from their windows.

"Please stay in your homes," said the announcement.
