Fifty-six gang members, five of which belonged to Spain’s military and policing forces, were arrested during 29 coordinated and simultaneous arrests in Cádiz, Seville and Valencia.
Officers seized a total of 716 kilos of cocaine and 3.840 kilos of hash in the sting operation, online daily 20 minutos reported.
According to the Spanish Civil Guard’s initial investigation, the three soldiers arrested allowed the hash to come in through Spain’s southern Cádiz province, a few minutes away from Morocco by speedboat.
As for the cocaine, the drug trafficking gang used the “gancho perdido” method, which involves hiding the drugs in ship containers with legal merchandise that arrive at Algeciras port, also on Spain’s southern coast.
Several firearms, over 100 mobile phones and €32,000 in cash were also taken during the raid.
