Mother killed, child hurt in street smash: Oslo

A mother was killed and her one-year-old daughter injured after a car hit them at the side of a main road in Oslo on Tuesday.

The accident happened on Ring Road 2 between Uelands Gate road and Geitmyrsveien Road at St. Hanshaugen just after 8.30am in Oslo. A car veered off the main road and hit the woman who was walking on the pedestrian sidewalk and pushing a pram.

Police chief, Tor Gulbrandsen, said to NTB: “The car somehow ended up on the sidewalk and hit the woman. Something must have happened before that, but we don't know what.”

The victim was treated by medics at the scene of the crash before being brought to Ullevaal hospital by ambulance. She later died from his injuries. A doctor, passing the accident scene by car, also pulled over and gave first aid to the victim. The child was brought to Ullevaal hospital and only sustained light injuries.

The driver of the car, a woman in her fifties, was taken to the emergency ward of the hospital and will be questioned by police shortly.

The front shield and hood of the car were smashed in the accident.
