Runaway cow rescued from river in Freiland

The escaped cow was being captured by the farmer, when it took flight from the pasture, and jumped into a nearby mill stream leading to an electrical generator.

 

The farmer secured the cow with a line, to reduce its distress and to prevent it from drowning or being taken into the generating turbine, and called the local volunteer fire brigade.

 

When the rescuers arrived, they brought a crane with them, and were able to winch the animal out of the stream.

 

The generator operator was able to lower the water level, allowing the rescuers to climb in and place slings underneath the cow, so it could be winched safely.  Within 15 minutes, the cow was back on its feet in the meadow, with the bad stream experience just a memory.
