Thursday was an unlucky day for the 29-year-old student from Kempten, near Lake Constance, who was expecting a parcel containing 100 grams of cannabis resin. However, the online distributor got the address mixed up.

A company with a box at the same office received the package and informed police after opening it and discovering the contents.

Investigating at the postal distribution centre, the police found that the intended recipient of the parcel had given a false name.

Stumped, the two plain clothed officers were wondering how to identify the addressee when they received a helping hand from happenstance.

The student arrived to check on his order and failed to hide his dismay upon finding his post box empty.

Confronted by the two policemen, he was arrested on the spot. His father later delivered a "contrite" confession to the authorities.

Nothing remains for him now but to await his court date.
