The first snow of late summer fell on Zugspitze in Bavaria early on Sunday morning. Four centimetres were measured on the 2,962-metre peak.
“Snow on the Zugpsitze in August is extraordinary,” said Adrian Leyser from German weather service DWD.
Temperatures have not gone above 25C in Germany since August 13th – almost two weeks ago. “That’s a long spell for the summer month of August,” Leyser added.
And a return to summer in the last few days of August is unlikely. Temperatures will struggle to reach 20C anywhere in Germany this week, according to forecasters.
Rain is expected almost everywhere in the country at some point on Tuesday.
