Ferry firm LD Lines slashes UK-Spain routes

The French shipping line has informed customers with tickets for after September 7th that their bookings have been cancelled.

According to the BBC, “several hundred” people have been rebooked on Brittany Ferries routes which will drop them off at Portsmouth, 88 kilometres (55 miles) away from Poole.

“(It’s) very frustrating,” disgruntled passenger Michael Glover told the BBC.

"I've got to come back earlier than planned and there are cost implications to that.

"I've also had no offer of any compensation."

LD Lines said the decision came after a “business review” and that they had transferred passengers to other ferry services “as close as possible to their LD Lines booking”.

Earlier this August, Gijón mayor Carmen Moyirón accused LD Lines of coming to her city “to receive €30 million in subsidies and then leave after four years.”

Another route between the northern Spanish city and Saint Nazaire (near Nantes, France) is also facing possible closure in October due to LD Lines's financial losses.
