Bavarian police said an autopsy of the body, found last week in Lake Constance, confirmed that it was Hermann, a 58-year-old former fund manager, who committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

"Apart from clearly-identifiable jewelry and clothing, a comparison of dental records confirmed the identity," police said in a statement..

"The body had a fatal gunshot wound to the head."

The body was found on Thursday by a fisherman in the German part of the lake, which borders Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Liechtenstein police and investigators in Switzerland had been looking for Hermann since the murder of Jürgen Frick, the head of Liechtenstein’s Bank Frick.

Frick, 48, was found shot to death on April 7th in an underground parkade of the bank in Balzers, Liechtenstein.

The victim was a brother of Mario Frick, the Liechtentstein prime minister from 1993 to 2001.

Hermann was identified by surveillance cameras in the bank building.

Calling himself the “Robin Hood of Liechtenstein” on his website, he spent seven years sparring with Bank Frick and the tax haven’s government over what he alleged was wrongdoing that cost him huge sums of money.

After the shooting content on his website was replaced with the words: “Catch me if you can, dead or alive, reward 200,000,000 CHF (Swiss francs)”.

His vehicle was found shortly afterward in Ruggel, near the Swiss and Austrian borders.

Police also discovered by the banks of Rhine River his clothes, his driving permit and his passport.

In his passport, investigators found a note in which Hermann admitted to his crime and bid farewell to the world.

It appears from reports that his body floated down the river into Lake Constance.
