Four more Danes have contracted listeria by way of contaminated products from the food company Jørn A. Rullepølser A/S, the Danish State Serum Institute (SSI) reported on Monday.
SSI said that tests on four additional individuals confirmed that they have been infected with listeria, bringing the total number of infections up to 24. An additional three individuals are still being tested, according to the institute.
“The SSI expects that more cases will be detected as part of this outbreak, since it typically takes 1-4 weeks from the time of infection with the bacteria until the time of showing symptoms of listeriosis,” the institute wrote in a press release.

Twelve Danes have died as a result of the outbreak, which was traced to the popular deli meat rullepølse. A total of 30 products, including variations of rullepølse, salami and hot dogs have been recalled. A full list of affected products can be seen here.
On Sunday, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (Fødevarestyrelsen) submitted an official report on its handling of the listeria outbreak and concluded that it did not act quickly enough in tracing the problem to Jørn A. Rullepølser A/S. One employee was removed from his post as a result.
The food and ag minister, Dan Jørgensen, said there were “serious mistakes” by the food authorities but accepted Fødevarestyrelsen’s conclusions and actions.
