Summer’s swan song?

Highs will dip below 20C over the weekend as rain moves in. Is this the end for summer 2014 or will Denmark get one last hurrah?

Here’s hoping you’re reading this outside on your phone or tablet, because Friday could be the last day for awhile in which temperatures top 20C .

“It’s not summer weather that we have on the programme. Today is a day like we are used to, with somewhat mixed weather. There will be sun, clouds and showers. It will also be the last day in which we can feel a bit of the residual warmth from summer,” Jørn Thomsen, a meteorologist with DMI, told Politiken.

DMI’s forecast for the weekend calls for highs around 19C on Saturday, while Sunday looks like it will bring rain and slightly cooler temperatures. Rain is also forecast for Monday through Wednesday, but Thomsen said it is not all doom and gloom.

“The weather could be summery again at the end of August or the beginning of September,” he told Politiken.

DMI’s extended forecast calls for a possible return to highs in the 20s, but says there is a clear limit to how long we can expect the summer weather to stick around.

“The stabile, sunny and warm weather from the end of August looks like it will continue into the first week of September, but it is very uncertain how long after that the nice late summer weather can remain,” DMI’s forecast says.
