Artists cut new life into dead tree trunks in Tornau, a village of 600 people in eastern Germany. Animals, goblins, dragons and more abstract sculptures emerged over the weekend.
Raik Zenger from nearby Bad Düben took the Wolfang Köppe Prize, named after the festival's founder, home for his sculpture "Beaver in the Hammerbach."
The Hammerbach is a local stream in the Düben Heath, the picturesque region where the competition took place for the 15th time.
