The pensioner’s body was found by a nurse after he set himself on fire in a bathroom, Il Messaggero reported on Sunday.
The unnamed man reportedly left a suicide note on his bed, in which he explained that he did not want to live in the care home. His partner, an Alzheimer’s sufferer, had been sent for treatment at a facility outside of the region.
Italy has seen a spate of self-immolations in recent months, with another man setting himself on fire just last week.
The 68-year-old man committed suicide in L’Aquila, leaving a letter in which he said he had been tormented ever since the city was struck by a devastating earthquake in 2009.

April saw the self-immolation of an unemployed truck driver, days before another man set himself and his children alight in a car. There was also a series of such suicides around Christmas time, with men dying in Rome and Naples.
