The Swiss tennis star exchanged volleys with Vonn in an exhibition match on the Aletsch glacier, near the Jungfraujoch, against the backdrop of the Alps with Lindt chefs, wearing sunglasses, white toques and uniforms, looking on.
Federer is a paid “ambassador” to the Zurich-based chocolate maker, which opened its “Swiss Chocolate Heaven” shop at the station, dubbed the “top of Europe” because of its high altitude.
The world number three tennis player, who recently lost in the Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic, posted a video on his website showing a Skype conversation he had with Vonn, inviting her to the mountain in the canton of Bern.
“I never cease to be amazed by the great ideas Lindt comes up with,” Federer said later in a statement.
“Today on the Jungfraujoch was a real highlight for me.”
The Lindt shop features an adjacent “Master Chocolatiers” parlour that aims to show visitors how its chocolate products are made.
“With the themed chocolate shop at the Jungfraujoch, we have positioned our brand to a lofty height,” Ernst Tanner, CEO and chairman of Lindt & Sprüngli, said in a news release.
“Our aim is to introduce tourists from abroad to our Lindt chocolate up there.”
