Two trains were stuck in the tunnels of Stockholm's Södra station around 10:30am after an electric contact line crashed to the ground at Stockholm Central Station.

"I heard a huge explosion, and I could feel the vibrations in my body," a man on one of the halted trains told newspaper Aftonbladet. "I looked out the window and saw a cloud of smoke, and then there was another crash and a flash of light."

Swedish railway agency SJ confirmed that a train entering Stockholm Central Station tore down a contact line. Authorities shut off power on the tracks, and the trains were evacuated through the tunnels.

By 1pm one of the tracks was back in working order. But full traffic on all tracks will not be restored until Friday, Trafikverket announced.
