Parts of Stockholm's central area of Gamla Stan were evacuated on June 19th after the 43-year-old man threatened to blow up several Swedish political parties.
He claimed to have a bomb strapped around his waist after walking into the offices of Civil Right Defenders. After a long stand-off the man surrendered and was picked up by police.
According to the authorities the purported bomb was a fake. The man was remanded into custody two days after the incident and has since confessed to the crimes.
He stated afterwards that he staged the incident in protest against Sweden's asylum process, after his application for refugee status was declined.
It's believed that the man arrived in Sweden in April and had his asylum application rejected. The man's lawyer said he felt he was poorly treated.
His trial will begin on July 22nd.
