Copenhagen’s new cycling bridge opens

The first bikes rolled over Cykelslangen on Saturday. The bridge will give as many as 12,000 cyclists every day an easier way to get between Vesterbro and Islands Brygge.

The long-awaited cycling bridge Cykelslangen opened on Saturday in Copenhagen.
 
The 230 metre long Cykelslangen connects the districts of Vesterbro and Islands Brygge by hooking up with the existing Bryggebroen bridge. The new connection saves as many as 12,000 cyclists every day from dismounting and carrying their bikes up and down stairs near the Fisketorvet shopping mall.
 
The bridge's opening was nearly a year behind schedule due to licencing problems and delays in getting steel and concrete from a Chinese supplier.
