According to police sources, one of the people arrested tried to grab a gun from one of the officers.

Two people have also been injured during the police eviction in the working-class neighbourhood of Usera in Spain’s capital.

Activists belonging to Spain’s anti-evictions lobby PAH told news agency Europa Press the evicted family was made up of two unemployed parents, their seven and eight-year old children as well as their new-born, only 20 days old.

The wife and daughter of Jorge Verstringe, a university lecturer arrested last Thursday for protesting against the enthronement of Spain’s new king, were also present at the eviction.

PAH lawyer Manuel San Pastor has criticized the “extreme violence” used by police during the eviction.

He also announced that “for every eviction that takes place, they will look for an empty property” in which to house those who have been affected.

"Kutxabank, thanks to you this family is homeless. You have no shame"
