Record year for drug busts: police

The Danish National Police (Rigspolitiet) announced today that police confiscated around 3.3 tonnes of cannabis last year, the biggest haul in a decade. 

 

“I have no doubt that the pressure we are putting on the criminals in the gang environment have contributed strongly to the good results,” police spokesmen Tormod Christesen said. “Therefore we will continue to put pressure on the kingpins who earn huge amounts of money on the sale of illegal drugs.”

 

A majority of the confiscated cannabis came from the Copenhagen area, primarily through the work of Copenhagen Police’s special unit established to crack down on the illegal drug trade in Christiania. The unit, Task Force Pusher Street, carried out the largest bust in Christiania’s history earlier this year, resulting in 80 arrests. 

 

Copenhagen Police alone confiscated over two tonnes of cannabis.

 

Police also reported that the 681 kilos of cocaine confiscated last year was also a record. Whereas most of the cannabis was nabbed in Copenhagen, police said that the lion’s share of the cocaine was confiscated in Jutland.
