Denmark is the second most peaceful nation in the world according to the newly-released Global Peace Index (GPI).
Denmark came closely behind top country Iceland in the index, which was compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace. Seven of the top 10 most peaceful countries are in Europe. Fellow Scandinavian countries Norway and Sweden were ranked numbers 10 and 11 respectively, while Germany came in at number 17.
Coming in at the bottom of the list was Syria. The next least peaceful countries in the study were Afghanistan, South Sudan and Iraq.
Denmark’s second place ranking was unchanged from last year’s GPI.
