Samuele Causa was with a friend at Busalla station at around 10.30pm last night when the pair decided to clamber onto a parked train, Il Secolo XIX reported.

The 14-year-old is thought to have slipped and grabbed hold of a high-voltage cable. He was killed instantly and thrown to the ground by the force of the electric shock, Rai News said.

After the accident, Causa’s friend called home and his mother alerted the emergency services, who rushed to the scene and spent more than an hour trying to revive the teenager, Il Secolo XIX said.

“They did it as a game, it’s a tragedy,” the victim’s older brother was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

The teenager’s death comes two months after a 21-year-old man in Spain died after being electrocuted by a train cable. He had climbed on top of a train with a friend, to take a photograph of themselves, and died after touching a 3,5000-volt cable he thought was not live.
