Valeria Ciangherotti, 42, failed to refer the lung cancer tumour despite it being “clearly visible” on the x-ray, judges at a court in the northern Italian region of Liguria ruled, according to a report in La Repubblica.
The incident dates back to April 27th 2009 at the Santa Corona di Pietra Ligure hospital in Liguria.
It was only nine months later that the man was diagnosed with cancer and later died. His family then took legal action.
Earlier this year, a woman from Rimini sued her local health authority for €800,000 after she discovered she had undergone months of grueling cancer treatment on the wrong breast. Her lawyer said the error was the first of its kind in Italy.

In another case involving a cancer patient late last year, a 43-year-old woman from the northern Italian city of Treviso waited almost a month for a letter telling her she had cancer because of "staff shortages" at the local post office and a "heavy workload over Christmas".
