Kärrtorp clashes: Four neo-Nazis jailed

A court of appeals sentenced four neo-Nazis to jail on Thursday morning for their involvement in December's clashes in southern Stockholm.

The four men, all members of the Swedish Resistance Movement (SMR), were sentenced to between six and eight months in prison. The four were among seven who were sentenced in March after being found guilty of instigating a riot in Kärrtorp in December last year.

The sentenced men had previously claimed in court that they were simply staging a counter-demo as neighbourhood protesters demonstrated against the sprouting of Nazi graffiti in the south Stockholm suburbs.

But the protests turned violent, seeing several people injured and some stabbed. An extreme-left activist was sentenced in April to six and a half years in prison for stabbing a neo-Nazi in the back.

The following weekend, Stockholmers gathered in their thousands to protest against the violence.
