According to the Krone newspaper, a Graz businessman routinely sends packages of gold jewellery to Germany to be melted down into ingots.
The package which went missing contained 4 kg of gold worth an estimated €76,000. The 45-year-old businessman explained that "previously, 1000 such deliveries worked just fine".
On this occasion, due to a logistics error that happened in Vienna, the package, in a specially-marked "SafeBag", was returned to the sender but left on the doorstep, rather than being entrusted to an individual.
The newspaper reported that the businessman was seriously annoyed, complaining that the driver must have known what a "SafeBag" meant, and that he couldn't understand how such a mistake could be made.
