Austria has cheaper fuel than its neighbours

Italy has the most expensive fuel – with a litre of diesel costing €1.65, and a litre of Euro-Super-95 costing €1.71.

In Austria, on average you can expect to pay €1.30 for a litre of diesel and €1.37 for petrol.

“Given these prices refuelling before you leave Austria can help keep your travel budget down a little," ARBÖ boss Kurt Sabatnig said.  

Fuel prices have also risen in countries like Slovenia and Croatia – popular holiday destinations for Austrians. In Slovenia, diesel costs €1.36 and Euro-Super-95 costs €1.46. In Croatia you can expect to pay €1.27 for a litre of diesel and €1.71 for a litre of petrol.

In Hungary, diesel will set you back €1.41 and petrol €1.35.

The Czech Republic is slightly cheaper than Austria – with diesel costing €1.29 and petrol €1.32.

In Germany and Switzerland, drivers pay €1.49 for a litre of diesel, and €1.44 for petrol.
