In the police's annual Crime Statistics report, which will be released on Wednesday but has been seen by Welt newspaper, 5.961 million crimes were reported.
That was a fall of 0.6 percent on the previous year. Just over half of the crimes were solved – 54.5 percent. Police had a particularly good success rate tackling murders and manslaughter with 96 percent of cases solved.
But according to Welt, the figures show another rise in home and apartment burglaries.
They rose by 3.7 percent to 149,500. The worst areas for burglaries were Bonn, Aachen, Cologne and Bremen. Although Berlin recorded the most break-ins, when population is taken into account it was one of the cities in Germany where you are least likely to get burgled.
