Merkel, Cameron to talk EU reform in Sweden

"The EU needs to be reformed to better create jobs and ensure growth at a time when the EU is slowly emerging from the economic crisis," the Swedish government said in a statement as it announced the impending visit by Angela Merkel, David Cameron, and the Netherlands' Prime Minister Mark Rutte on June 9th.

"At the same time, the EU faces important institutional changes with a new European Parliament and a new Commission in the autumn."

Sweden said its inclusion on the World Economic Forum's top-ten of most competitive export nations made it a natural host for the mini top-level talks. The leaders will meet at Harpsund, the official summer residence of the Swedish PM.

"For Sweden it will be important to underscore structural reform to increase the EU's competitiveness, to strengthen the internal market, increase free trade, and promote free movement," the statement read.
