UK-French version of The Bridge to hit Swedish TV

 

The Bridge, or Bron in Swedish, was a world-wide hit and sold to over 100 countries. It has already been remade in the US, where it was also called The Bridge and featured detectives working together from both sides of the US-Mexican border.

 

From Friday May 9th, the Swedes will get a taste of the Anglo-French version – The Tunnel – which will run weekly on Sveriges Television (SVT).

 

The Tunnel, which like the original series switches between two languages, hit UK small screens in October last year. The remake stars Stephen Dillane, who currently plays Stannis Baratheon in television series Game of Thrones, and French actress Clémence Poésy, who featured as Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter films.

 

The first series sees the two detectives solve the murder of a politician found dead and dismembered in the Channel Tunnel. In the original Swedish-Danish series, the body has been placed across the border on the Öresundsbron bridge that connects Sweden to the continent.

Bron, a joint collaboration between Danish and Swedish producers, saw Sweden's Sofia Helin and Denmark's Kim Bodnia charm audiences despite the show's often gritty content. The show was based primarily in Malmö and Copenhagen, with the square female character off-set by her self-destructive Danish colleague.

 

The Tunnel was well received in the UK and has already been commissioned for a second season, which producers promised will be completely different from the Swedish series' second season, which featured eco terrorists.
