Swedes produce online hit with time-lag goggles

"Living with lag – an oculus rift" was produced by Ume.net in Sweden's north. Volunteers strapped on a pair of heavy-set goggles that forced users to get used to a half- to three-second delay between what was happening around them and what they saw.

The advert opens with a confused man hitting the air, with some panache, moments after a table tennis ball zips past him. The video then shows a woman who keeps losing direction at an aerobics class, groping the girl next to her to find her bearings. 

"Sorry! Sorry!" she exclaims, until she unstraps her goggles to reveal a rather dazed look.

In two days, the video has attracted almost one million views on YouTube.

Pouring pancake batter in the pan also becomes difficult, applying mustard on a hot dog equally so, and playing Swedish rundpingis, when several table tennis players circle a table tennis table, turns into an outright dangerous past-time as a male goggle-bearer jogs into a competitor.

Bowling with the lag-goggles on is rife with danger too, at least for the alley flooring.

The fibre broadband company, which is owned by Umeå Municipality, claims that Ume.net provides one of the world's fastest internet connections.
