Murder squad called to undertaker’s car

A police murder squad was called to a parked car in a town in western Germany this week after blood was reportedly seen dripping from it. A body was found in the vehicle, but the driver was just doing his job.

By-standers called the police on Tuesday after seeing blood dripping out of the car in the city centre of Euskirchen, south of Cologne. When police arrived on the scene they discovered a woman’s body and called the homicide squad, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reported on Thursday.

But further investigations revealed that an undertaker had parked the car while picking up a death certificate for the woman who died during a hospital operation.

As the body bag had not been properly closed and the car had been parked on a slant, blood leaked out onto the street.

A spokesman for Euskirchen police told The Local it was the first time officers had been called to a body being transported by an undertaker. "It is a very painful and unpleasant thing to happen to the undertaker," he said. "No crime was committed."
