Anna Renzi was robbed on Friday afternoon while she was outside her house, by a couple who said they were friends of her son Tiziano, the prime minister’s father, La Nazione reported.

Believing their claim, the 84-year-old chatted to the man and a woman, not noticing that one had snuck off through the open garage and into her home.

It wasn’t until after the couple left and Anna Renzi went back inside that she realized she had been robbed of a gold watch and other family jewellery.

She is one of a number of victims of the smartly-dressed duo, who are yet to be found, La Nazione said.

Anna Renzi lives in the east of Florence, the city in which her grandson served as mayor until becoming prime minister in February.

Yesterday in Florence supporters of Matteo Renzi’s Democratic Party (PD) went to the polls to determine their candidate for the new mayoral race. Acting Mayor Dario Nardella won the vote by a landslide, with 83 percent of the vote, and will now face elections on May 25th.
