IOC president Thomas Bach had invited Putin personally to come visit when the two men met during a lunch held on February 24th, a day after the Games ended, IOC spokeswoman Sandrine Tonge told AFP.
Bach had invited the Russian leader to come visit the IOC headquarters and the Olympic Museum in the picturesque Swiss town overlooking Lake Geneva.
No date had been set and the IOC is still awaiting a response to the invitation, Tonge said.
Putin has attracted widespread international condemnation following Russia's takeover of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula.
