Astar blew away the judges and won a standing ovation when she performed the haunting song on Norway's Got Talent, injecting all of quavering tremolo for which the troubled 1940s jazz singer is so famous.
"I felt something special about it, it’s hard to explain in words. When I sang it for my mum, she said that this song is nice," she told NRK after the performance.
"Her singing talent is a gift which she must use," her mother Sarah told TV2. "For me and her family it's absolutely amazing."
Astar's apparently been having singing lessons since she was three, so she's clearly been well trained.
But it's nonetheless a little uncanny to hear a girl who's still losing her baby teeth channel the world-weariness of jazz's most troubled diva.
