The tornado hit the town of Lucon in the Vendée department of western France on Monday morning, pulling down power lines, ripping row of sheds, damaging homes – in other words wreaking havoc like tornadoes generally do.
With power lines down, France’s electricity provider ERDF said 13,500 homes were without electricity until it was restored later in the afternoon.

The tornado hit as Western France was once again lashed by violent storms and high tides which destroyed sea defences and left several coastal towns and villages under water.
Record high waves crashed into the seafront in towns across the Atlantic coast from Brittany to Bordeaux, some reaching as high as 14 metres.
This video from France Televisions shows stormy seas causing damage to the seafront in the Basque town of Biarritz.
