Although the YouTube clip filmed by a group of firefighters in the northern French city of Lille was a joke birthday gift, bosses certainly did not see the funny side.
The publicly posted video shows the bare-chested guys in their firefighting gear, but also working out as well as in the shower, while they lip synch to Carly Rae Jepsen's ubiquitous 2012 hit 'Call Me Maybe'.
The short clip carries the written message: “Happy birthday Naninanounax!, This was made on the occasion of a birthday, and was an attempt to make fun of ourselves. It is not meant to be taken seriously.”
Many viewers it seems were crazy about the three minute video and aired their views in the comments section.
“I love it. For once they are having fun. They risk their lives every day, so they have the right to have a little fun,” wrote viewer Baguecalais. Laventine2204 agreed saying: “Just excellent!!! I love it.”
However, the bosses did not appreciate it.
“We don't necessarily want to put out a funny image of ourselves. It's not in our best interest,” an unnamed source from management told France TV. “On top of it, they are at the fire station, using department equipment. It's not appropriate.”
Have a look at the video. Tell us what you think. Should firefighters be stripping down to their pants to make fun of themselves?
