The bomb threat was directed at a passenger plane which was scheduled to take off for Baghdad, Iraq at 12.30pm.

"We're working with police, then they'll make a call on what should happen," Klas Nilsson, spokesman of Swedish plane operator Swedavia, told the Upsala Nya Tidning newspaper (UNT).

Nilsson said he "had no information" of any similar threats in the past against the airline. There are no longer any passengers on the plane.

Police are taking the threat seriously.

"I don't know how large the cordoned area will be. It depends on where the plane is standing," Ulf Lindgren of the Stockholm police told the TT news agency.
