Heavy snow to hit north and central Italy

Parts of northern and central Italy will be hit with heavy snow over the coming days, with temperatures plummeting below zero.

Snow will start to fall this evening in Alps and the lower mountains of Emilia Romagna, hitting the city of Bologna overnight, as well as in Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige, meteorologists are predicting.

By Wednesday, heaving snow will reach Turin and Milan, and will continue to fall heavily on Thursday in northwest Emilia Romagna and the Alps.

Temperatures are expected to rise again from Friday.

In December, heavy snow in northern Italy left a French showboarder dead after an avalanche hit the resort town of Les Arnauds, close to the French border. Families were also forced from their homes as snow storms. heavy rain and wind swept across the country, causing power cuts.
