Germany’s most beautiful woman aged over 50

A saleswoman from Baden-Württemberg was named Germany’s most beautiful woman aged over 50 on Saturday. It is the second year the pageant for over 50s has been held to show beauty does not decline with age.

Monika Römer-Emich, 52, beat 19 other finalists in Bodenmais, Bavaria to be crowned "Miss 50plus Germany”.

"I am still so overwhelmed, it was really an amazing experience," said the saleswoman, from Flein, southern Germany.

She wowed the panel of more than ten judges with her Dirndl, business outfit and evening dress.

Her prize is a year's modelling contract with contest organizers the Miss Germany Corporation (MGC) as well as a professional photoshoot.

Around 500 women applied to be part of the competition with the oldest aged 69.

Ralf Klemmer, CEO of the Miss Germany Corporation, said: "It used to be that women at this age were on the shelf. These days they've raised kids to adulthood, and they're still professionally successful, or even making a new start."

"In appearance there's hardly anything to tell them apart from a 30-year-old," he added.

Römer-Erich took the title from last year's winner Christina Wache, who became Germany's first ever "Miss 50plus" last December at the age of 53 – and was also among the judges at this year's pageant.

The panel of judges included television presenters, singers, fashion designers, models and the mayor of Bodenmais Joachim Heller.
