Weed dealing officials kicked out of ruling party

Two city councillors from the northern Spanish city of León have been expelled from the country's ruling Popular Party after being arrested for allegedly trafficking a kilo of marijuana.

Spain’s Civil Guard arrested the pair on Monday when carrying the drug along with equipment to weigh and handle it.

Leon’s Popular Party Secretary general told Spanish media an investigation had been opened in order to ascertain why José Antonio Gallegos and Beatriz Rodríguez had been caught in possession of the illegal substance.

Both councilmen, 38 and 35, are currently awaiting trial, online Spanish newspaper 20minutos reported on Friday.

The news comes just days after Spain’s ruling party unveiled a draft Citizen Security Law which could mean huge fines for everything from filming a policeman to possessing illegal drugs like marijuana.
