Berlin's start-up scene has gained a lot of media attention recently, both positive and negative. This week's Local List leaps to the defence of the capital's tech industry.

There has been hype building around Berlin's start-up scene for the past few years, and as the tech industry flourishes in the city people arrive to look for jobs every day. But there has been a backlash of negativity around the industry.

And while companies fail and some people leave the city disappointed after not finding the hipster mecca so heavily reported on, The Local decided to take a look at the benefits of working in one of the the city's many start-ups.

For one, they're helping to bring a struggling city to its feet. “Start-ups have been a growing part – albeit still a small one – of the city's economic upswing,” explained David Knight of tech news website Silicon Allee.
