The men, in their 20s, threatened the woman driver of a Golf with a pellet gun to take control of the car at an intersection in the upscale Geneva municipality of Cologny on Monday night, according to an online report from the 20 Minutes newspaper on Wednesday.
The woman, an employee of a luxury hotel, let the men take the car and subsequently contacted police.
The culprits, meanwhile, appeared to lose their way and ended up being caught an hour later at the Swiss-French border crossing at Saint Gingolph in the canton of Valais.
Saint Gingolph is located at the eastern end of Lake Geneva in the opposite direction from Geneva.
“We acted following an inter-police alert issued from Geneva,” Jacques Javet, spokesman for border guards in the region, told 20 Minutes.
Javet was unable to comment further.
But it appears the men drove northeast from Geneva into the French region of Haute-Savoie and continued unwittingly back into Switzerland.
The pellet gun was found in the car and the two men were subsequently incarcerated in a Geneva jail, 20 Minutes said.
