Biz honcho admits attack on ice cream truck

A prominent Swedish businessman has confessed to cutting holes into a tyre of an ice cream truck as he was hacked off at the noise it was making in his neighbourhood.

“I have been to the police and confessed. Now I want to start a debate about ice cream truck noise,” said millionaire Percy Nilsson to the Expressen newspaper.

Nilsson, 71, is best known for his ownership of his local Malmö Redhawks ice-hockey team. He was reported to the police by an ice cream truck driver who discovered holes in the vehicle’s tyre made by a drill during the summer.

Nilsson initially denied the charge but has since some clean. Despite his confession he remains angry about the amount of noise the ice cream trucks make.

“At 75 meters she had time to honk ten times. In the middle of summer in a quiet neighbourhood this is just awful.”

“The ice-cream truck drivers remarked a few times earlier that I told them not to honk on my street. I warned them I would act if they did not stop and this summer I did,” said Nilsson.

The teenage driver of the ice-cream truck made a testimony to the police where she said she honked the horn 400 times between 4pm and 8:15pm on the day of the incident on July 29th.

Nilsson said he reported her to the police for causing the noise, which he claims broke local regulations in the Vellinge municipality where he lives.

“I really hope that other people agree with my complaints. Ice cream trucks honking their horns is completely out of date. No other company can honk with speakers and disturb the peace.”

“No fish truck, nothing else. Besides, ice-cream is not unique and can be bought in any shop nowadays.”

The businessman added that he denied the accusation in the first place as he didn’t want to get into a debate with journalists. He also said he never intended to hurt anybody as a result of cutting the tyre.

“I will never give up,” he said when asked if he was going to continue his campaign against ice-cream trucks.

Back in 2008 a professor at Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg compared the repetition of ice cream trucks’ jingle with modern torture methods.
