The 40-year-old teacher of English was locked up on charges of sexual abuse for sending 'erotic' messages to one of his students.
He is also suspected of having sent similar messages to four other pupils aged as young as 11.
In his testimony, the teacher at a public school in the southern Madrid suburb of Parla admitted to sending images and texts using the mobile messaging service Whassup.
But the man who was arrested on Friday said he had sent the messages to educate the children.
He also argued he hadn't wanted to cause moral harm to the youngsters.
Madrid's Department of Education are also taking disciplinary action against the teacher.
The judge overseeing the case has yet to release further details of the proceedings.
