AC Milan forced to play in empty stadium

AC Milan will play its next game at its San Siro stadium behind closed doors, the Italian football authority ruled on Monday, as punishment for fans' discriminatory chants at the weekend.

The Serie A authority slammed AC Milan “for having hundreds of its supporters…chanting insults expressing territorial discrimination towards fans of the other team”, during Sunday’s match against Juventus.

The club was also ordered ordered to pay a €50,000 fine.

AC Milan will appeal the decision ahead of the team’s next match, scheduled for October 19th against Udinese.

The Serie A decision is the latest move to crack down on fans’ bad behaviour this season.

Last month, the league authority ruled Inter Milan should play its next game with part of the San Siro stadium – shared with AC Milan – closed to supporters.

At the time the football judge criticized Inter fans for “shouts and chants of racial discrimination” during a match against Juventus.
