The 39-year-old Nigerian woman was found by police after calling the emergency services when her captors were distracted, Il Tempo said.

She was reportedly kidnapped by a 38-year-old priest in the Casilino neighbourhood after refusing his advances.

The priest and two other fellow Nigerians allegedly raped the parishioner over a 10-day period before she was able to call for help, the newspaper reported.

When police arrived at the apartment, attached to a church, they found two couples who were allegedly used to guard the victim. The four have been accused of complicity in kidnapping, while the priest has also been arrested.

After being freed by police the woman was taken to hospital, although is in good health, Il Tempo reported.
